HOW TO PREVENT BREAKAGE | Salon Cass

Are you noticing short hair strands all over your bathroom, on your shoulder and on your bed? This is a result of heat styling and blow drying your hair too much! With today's silkend and heat heavy styles, our hair can take a beat down and we don't even know it...until, it starts to break.

Here are a few tips to help prevent hair breakage!

*Drink at least 64 ounces of water per day,,,I know its hard for some of us but the payoff is massive! trust me...your hair and skin will be glowing !!
* take a daily multivitamin, beauty starts from within shuga!
*Make it a priority to sleep on a satin pillowcase or cover your hair with a hair scarf or an elastic free satin bonnet.
*Apply a water based moisturizer to the ends of your hair..the ends of your strands are the oldest and needs more nourishment
*Follow up an oil to seal in the moisture something with a heavy coating like castor oil ..even a little beeswax is perfect
* Use protective styling such as sewins , braids, rod /roller sets and buns to tuck those ends.

Thank you for reading, I hope this helps you on your hair growth journey!

ORGANIC OILS AND HEALTHY HAIR TIPS | Salon Cass

For the past 5 years or longer, we have all been on this wave of using natural products in our hair. Organic oils, egg whites and mayo for protein, yogurt masks...you name it! Well let me just break down what these 5 organic oils is good for when it comes to your hair....
1) Jojoba Oil moisturizes hair and can be used as a light frizz control. You can also use it regularly to treat your dry, itchy scalp...the best use for it is stimulating hair growth! (inches!)
2) Olive Oil is a common one that is widely used in almost every "natural" hair care line. It's great for an add in with your conditioner to promote healthier hair. I love the way it makes the hair feel super soft after a good deep conditioning treatment.
3) Coconut Oil is one of my favorites for coating those strands and reversing slightly damaged hair...if your hair is severely damaged girl just grab the shears and start over. It creates a natural sheen and gloss from the deposits in your strands without weighing it down. I heard it makes your hair grow faster as well...I personally have not experienced faster growth but hey..maybe it's just me.
4) Castor Oil is the queen of them all ...everyone has found a million ways to use this wonderful oil but I will only list what I know it can be used for pertaining to hair. Are we familiar with jamaican castor oil?  yessss we are...Its been known to revive those thinning edges and to thicken hair strands. This is due to the ricinoleic acid found in the oil that penetrates the follicles and promote growth with its fungs fighting properties.
5) Almond Oil aids in repairing split ends and moisturizing the strands to prevent breakage which allows length to fall long and strong.
Purchase your oils below to target what your hair needs strength in!

WHAT ARE YOUR HAIR GOALS FOR 2018? | Salon Cass

It is finally 2018 and as usual , everyone has new goals and new  year resolutions that they want to accomplish. My question, as your friendly stylist is...what are your hair goals?? Would you like to look more vibrant this year and spice it up with a little color? Perhaps you are going to start your growth journey for the year. This requires a lot of patience and dedication to treatments and trims. When you really think about it, its only 52 shampoo/conditions.. 24 treatments and 6 trims....not bad right? Place these treatments on your calendar  to help you stay focused and on track.

First , start off with a good cut then measure the nape, bang area and crown. Next, add your measurements and Day 1 growth of your journey to your calendar on the date that you started. Measure every 3 months....

*Every week -Shampoo and condition
*Every two weeks- Deep condition
*Every four weeks - Protein treatment (aphogee is a good one)  and hot oil treatment (I like to mix Tea tree oil with olive oil with a conditioner and let it sit for an hour under a plastic processing cap..or plastic store bag lol)
*Every eight weeks- Detailed trim ( Part hair into 4 sections and sub part very small partings 2mm or half an inch and trim each sub section until all hair is trimmed)

Shaunda's At Home Natural Hair care Tips.

Being Natural can be a headache sometimes. You'll notice that your hair may be drying out more often , and you're probably experiencing more breakage. Looking for the right product for your texture can be draining....emotionally draining and financially draining! Usually, its the kinkyer textures that may experience this problem. Women with a looser curl pattern don't really suffer the same issues....(get where I'm going here?) The curlier your hair is , the more drying it will be. Just as the straighter your hair texture is, the more moisture it will retain. This dryness is due to the cuticles of your hair being raised when your strands are coiling, the bending will cause the cuticle to pop up which allows air to invade the strand . Straight hair allows the cuticle to lay flat causing moisture to remain within the strand. This is why you will have to apply heavy moisturizing products after shampooing your coily hair. Here are some tips to help alleviate the dryness.

1) Brush and detangle your hair with a vent brush or paddle brush
2) Shampoo your hair with hot temperature water that you feel comfortable with
3) Lightly towel blot hair
4) Mix a cream conditioner with castor oil , aloe vera and or vitamin E ( these products are rich in omega 9 fatty acids and will moisturize hair and promote growth by reducing breakage )
 - Apply mix to hair in an upward and downward motion section by section from ends to scalp to force the cream under the cuticles.
5) Place plastic processing cap or plastic shopping bag on hair and massage for 5 minutes, then let it condition for 20  minutes
6) Remove cap and rinse hair under cool water until all of the conditioner is removed. ( cool water rinsing will lock in the moisture from the conditioner and oils)
7) Lightly towel blot and apply a light moisturizing cream
8) Style
Do this once per week and you will notice a huge difference...more softness and manageability!
Below are some really great conditioners that I recommend for at home conditioning treatments as well as my all time go to blow drier for super silky blow outs!! These are the best prices I could find!
